POWER! Members Get VIP Tour of Marywood’s New School of Architecture

Monday, July 6th, 2009

POWER! Scranton members were recently given a VIP tour of Marywood University’s brand new School of Architecture at the July Outage. Over 80 young and young professionals gathered at the Liguori Center where they listened to three guest speakers involved with making this school a possibility. They then put on their hard hats and toured the building which is still under construction. The building is set to open in the fall.

Sister Anne Munley, president of Marywood University, welcomed POWER! Scranton to the University. Next, Dr. Gregory Hunt, Dean of the School of Architecture, took center stage to talk about the types of degrees the new school is going to offer. He also shared how the school and its students are seeking to conserve natural resources and promote environmental stewardship. Lastly, David Hemmler, principal of Hemmler & Camayd Architects, gave a presentation on how they designed the building around the LEED program developed by the United States Green Building Council. Some of the sustainable features include a green roof, a rainwater collection system, the installation of passive cooling technology, and the use of rapidly renewable construction materials.

Stayed tuned for the upcoming events including: Summer Socials, NEPA Miners, and the 500 Block on Lackawanna Avenue. For more information go to www.rediscoverscranton.com.
