Chamber Members Save Almost $700,000 in Energy Buying Pool

In March of 2009 the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce launched its partnership with OnDemand Energy Solutions, a Pittsburgh-based energy management company. Acting as a group through the energy pool and buying electricity in bulk from a third-party supplier, Chamber members are better positioned to reduce the price spike that northeastern Pennsylvania businesses will experience upon rate cap removal effective January 1, 2010.

Currently, The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce boasts the largest OnDemand energy pool of any Chamber in the state of Pennsylvania. Because of this, the Chamber is able to make larger buys in turn saving members more money. With a savings of $.01 per kilowatt hour, it's estimated that members who have signed on and participate could collectively save over $530,000.

On average, participating businesses will save $21,000 annually. The following businesses show some examples of the program’s success thus far.

OnDemand Energy Solutions is currently in open enrollment, with no cost to participate, but businesses must be members, in good standing, of The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce.
