Cultural Center
The Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple,
420 North Washington Ave., Scranton, operates as a
regional performance and cultural hub, hosting national
tours of Broadway musicals and concerts and many of
the area’s top regional companies.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places,
the Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple
is housed in one of the most glorious pieces of architecture
to be found in Scranton. Originally built as the Masonic
Temple and Scottish Rite Cathedral, the building is
significant as an example of the work of Raymond M.
Hood (1881-1934), a prominent architect of the 1920s
and early 1930s, and as a unique example of Neo-Gothic
architecture.
Facilities include: The Main Theater, The Grand Ballroom,
Shopland Hall, The Library, The Ladies Parlor and The
Junior Ballroom. In addition to hosting premiere events
throughout the year, the Scranton Cultural Center’s
facilities are available for rent for any occasion.
Among the performances featured at the Scranton Cultural
Center in recent years are: Willie Nelson, Northeastern
Pennsylvania Philharmonic, Broadway Theatre League,
Maroon 5, Cats, Mama Mia, Les Miserables, Riverdance,
The Full Monty, 42nd Street, Rent, Sound of Music,
Sesame Street Live, George Carlin, Lewis Black and
the Kingston Trio.
