About POWER! Scranton

POWER! (Professionals Organized and Working to Enrich the Region) is an informal group of young (and young thinking) professionals whose mission is to promote the region as a vital and pleasurable place to live, work, and play. The initiative has successfully created a forum for young professionals in the region not only to meet, socialize, and network with their peers, but also to become involved in shaping their community.

Founded in 2000, POWER! is a young professionals organization created through the Great Valley Technology Alliance that provides recreational and networking opportunities for the young and young thinking population in Northeastern Pennsylvania. POWER! was created in response to the regional and continual loss of NEPA’s greatest asset – it’s youth – to other communities.  By involving progressive individuals in a support network like POWER!, Northeast PA will enhance its ability to attract and retain the knowledge and talent necessary to build a better economic future for the region.

The Scranton chapter was created in November of 2005. This chapter has met with enthusiastic endorsements from Chris Doherty, Mayor of the City of Scranton; Robert Cordaro, Lackawanna County Commissioner; Bobby Soper, President and CEO of Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs; and Austin Burke, President of the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce.

To date, this chapter has currently recruited approximately 100 members within its first few months and is rapidly becoming a driven force within the community with over 250 current members. POWER! members meet at least once a month to give young professionals an opportunity to voice their opinions and solutions about the region in a casual, peer-oriented atmosphere. We are composed of volunteer members who are dedicated to making the region a more dynamic place and who also share a common vision of keeping our best and brightest young professionals in our region.
